Product Description

The Funk Firm Houdini decouples your cartridge from the vibration of your tonearm. Three years of development went into creating the Houldini. The reward is more information, better fidelity, and better sound. The differences are immediate and are not subtle. In Hi-Fi terms… More Pace / Better Mid clarity / Blacker Space / Greater Dynamics / Stronger Bass Attack. Houdini cartridge isolators provide an enhanced sense of pace and greater dynamic range, allowing for higher volume settings. Harshness and brashness is removed with an increase in resolution. The benefits can’t be recreated by any other means – the improvement is at a fundamental level. Simply put, it just sounds “Right” and you’ll find yourself rediscovering your entire record collection as you pull out one record after the other.

Preventing cartridge wobble is paramount for maximum resolution and stability control. Decoupling the cartridge from tonearm vibration with the Houdini delivers significant improvements in sound quality on even the most high-end turntables. On Linn, Project, Reed, Rega, Schroeder, SL1200, SME 30, Thorens, VPI, etc., the results are consistently amazing.

Houdini cartridge isolators design consists of upper and lower layers, connected by a complex torsion tether suspension system. This tiny package is just 6mm deep. Once the Houdini is installed you set the SRA/VTA by raising the tonearm by 6mm (the adjustment can also be done on a Rega with Funk Firm’s 6mm shim and on a Technics with their 6mm offset headshell).

Compatible with all major Cartridge Types

Houdini is offered in 2 variants, ‘Threaded’ and ‘Bolted’. Threaded cartridges have M2.5 threads which bolts from above can attach. Bolted cartridges fasten the bolt to a nut on the bottom.

HiFi Choice Houdini Review

“There’s less of a sense that I’m hearing a cartridge tracking a groove, and more a master tape feel. Stereo separation also improves, with superior stage depth being a big win. It makes mediocre cartridges sound good and good ones great.”

“Once mounted, what the Houdini actually does is nullify inter-relationships between cartridge and tonearm. It acts as a dissociative element, isolating the cartridge so it can freely operate as a conduit between the vinyl groove and, ultimately, the loudspeaker system.”

“Houdini has resoundingly succeeded in terms of providing worthwhile sonic performance gains. Most noticeably, Houdini has brought an enhanced solidity to the low registers in terms of depth and impact while also boosting instrument separation through complex music.”

  2. Marco Devin

    Funk Firm Houdini

“I suggest you try the Houdini first because it will improve the sound of your vinyl front end, and could save you money.”

Anyone have any experience of this device yet? It’s a cartridge decoupler, a little like Len Gregory’s Cartridgeman Isolator but much more softly suspended. Typically AK, it flies in the face of received wisdom.
