Innuos PhoenixUSB Reclocker
The Innuos PhoenixUSB is a high-performance USB reclocker designed to take the USB signal from your music server or computer and completely regenerate it with extreme precision before it reaches your DAC. By delivering a dramatically cleaner, more accurate signal, it allows your DAC to perform at its full potential.
Rather than functioning as a simple accessory, the PhoenixUSB effectively combines the performance benefits of three separate high-end components in one meticulously engineered chassis:
- A USB signal regenerator
- A dedicated linear power supply
- A precision master clock with its own independent linear power supply
Drawing on the engineering expertise developed for the flagship Innuos STATEMENT music server, the PhoenixUSB incorporates several key design principles that set it apart.
Precision Power Design
The USB regeneration stage is designed without switching regulators. Instead, three independent voltage rails are supplied by a dedicated linear power supply, with further refinement provided by three LT3045 regulator stages. This ultra-clean power architecture minimizes electrical noise at the source.
Ultra-Low Phase Noise OCXO Clock
At the heart of the PhoenixUSB is a 3ppb OCXO clock operating directly at 24MHz. The clock is positioned just inches from the USB chip and connected via a short board trace, eliminating the signal degradation that can occur with external 10MHz master clocks and additional clock generators. The result is exceptional timing accuracy and reduced jitter.
Dual Statement-Level Linear Power Supplies
Two independent, Statement-grade linear power supplies are used:
- One dedicated exclusively to the OCXO clock
- One dedicated to the USB chip and 5V USB line
This separation ensures optimal isolation and stability for each critical stage of operation.
What You Can Expect Sonically
When integrated into a revealing system, the PhoenixUSB typically delivers:
- Greater dimensionality and image precision
- Improved transient clarity
- Lower noise floor
- More natural flow and timing
- Increased overall realism
For systems where USB is the primary digital connection, the Innuos PhoenixUSB can be a transformative upgrade — elevating performance without replacing your existing DAC or server.

Innuos Phoenix USB reclocker review
Scary Monsters. And super creeps. David Bowie. And Robert Fripp. Listen intently to the album on a decent hi-fi system and you’ll not miss the King Crimson founder’s “Applied Frippertronics”: guitar sounds routed through a twin-tape-machine delay that tears at the very fabric of songs like “Fashion”, “It’s No Game Pt. 1“ and “Teenage Wildlife”. Fripp optimises Bowie.

Innuos Phoenix USB Reclocker Review
The Innuos Phoenix USB reclocker is here. Avid computer audiophiles are well aware of the sonic gains of having USB conditioning. If you’d like an introduction behind using USB reclockers in your digital playback system, check out my review of the SOtM tX-USBultra here. In short, the goal of a USB reclocker is to provide a clean and well-timed signal to the DAC from the server. The improvements are usually in soundstage, detail, solidity, and tonality.
