After 9 years, Phasemation has released the new EA-1200 Phono Amplifier, the successor to the EA-1000. Its release immediately follows the release of Phasemation’s flagship EA-2000 and has inherited its rich tones and dimensionality.

A tube LCR non-feedback phono amplifier with independent Lch & Rch composed of 3 units.

1. MC step-up transformer specially tuned based on Phasemation’s T-1000 transformer.
2. Newly designed vacuum tube LCR equalizer circuit, delivering unparalleled transparency and clarity.
3. Reduced noise floor in the power supply, for a blacker background.

The amplifier EQ utilizes independent left and right channel units, supported by an expertly designed power supply, having a very high S/N ratio and high resolution delivering the highest degree of realism and an overwhelming sense of liveliness in the musical performance.

  • A transformer based on the Phasemation T-1000 design forms the foundation for three inputs and can be switched to MC or MM for balanced inputs. In addition, Phasemation adopted the BAL/UNBAL switch to counteract ground noise when an unbalanced connection is made on the MC.
  • The non-feedback SRPP-type amplifying circuit of the ECC-803S tube has an excellent transient response and an outstanding reputation for sound quality, with a low-impedance output cathode follower using the ECC-802S tubes form a perfect combination sonically. You’ll enjoy the tremendous dynamic range and the kind of glossy and lively sound only possible with vacuum tubes.
  • The LCR topology is adopted for the equalizing circuit. Power loss and inductive noise in the signal are minimized, preserving sonic performance by reducing impedance in the signal path. The information obtained is outputted from the last stage without any losses by adopting large coils, high-quality film capacitors, and so forth.
  • Three equalizer curve switches are installed. The RIAA for stereo, Mono 1 (for use with DECCA), and Mono 2 (for use with Columbia), enabling higher fidelity playback for mono DECCA and Columbia records.

Power supply featuring direct-heat rectifier 5U4G tubes in a monaural design and with a high-capacity R-core transformer.

The rectification circuit uses an R-core power transformer with excessive capacity creating a rich rectification circuit for independent left and right channels, containing two choke coils and rectifier tubes (5U4G) which in principle do not generate switching noise. Furthermore, the power supply transformer and choke coils are magnetically shielded to provide cleaner and stronger power to the amplifier. In addition, a 3-terminal regulator DC ignition system is used for the heater power supply to achieve a high S/N ratio.

Ensuring Quality
A 10mm-thick aluminum slant front panel based on the elegant design of the EA-2000, a 1.6mm-thick copper-plated steel plate chassis base, and a 2mm-thick aluminum cover with a magnetic shield ensure rigidity and reduce magnetic distortion. The footers are equipped with heavy metal insulators to isolate external vibrations. The RCA terminals are made by Furutech, renowned for their high-quality parts, and the XLR terminals are from Neutrik.

Note: We have one new EAR HP4 Tube Headphone Amp in stock as of November 2022. EAR makes only one headphone amp model and the HP4 is one of the best in the world. These units take up to 120 days to deliver but we have this one ready to ship immediately from the USA; please call to make sure it’s still available.

Jaguar is proud to offer EAR electronics, known for crafting some of the most musical and refined tube gear available. While many high-end tube amplifier brands exist, often priced far higher than EAR, we focus on amplifiers like EAR and Lamm — products from visionary designers that stand apart as truly unique and exceptional.

The EAR HP4 Headphone Amplifier is regarded as one of the finest in its class. Using four 6SL7 valves matched to a high-quality load through precision transformers, it delivers nearly 1 watt of clean, low-distortion power into both high and low-impedance headphones. The Enhanced Triode Mode circuit, inspired by the acclaimed V20 and 859 integrated amplifiers, ensures stunning audio performance, while the input stage is transformer-coupled for the flexibility to accept both balanced and unbalanced signals from your preamplifier.

Designed for ease of use, the HP4 features an integrated volume control, allowing for direct headphone or loudspeaker listening. Input signals can be independently switched, offering versatility in your audio setup. Built for durability, EAR’s HP4 is engineered to last with an expected valve life of over 10,000 hours.

With the ability to connect up to four pairs of headphones, the HP4 offers Low/High Impedance and Balanced/Single-Ended operation options, ensuring compatibility with virtually any headphone in your collection.

EAR (Esoteric Audio Research), founded by legendary designer Tim de Paravicini, has been synonymous with high-fidelity audio since the 1970s. Renowned for his innovative designs, de Paravicini’s techniques have not only shaped EAR products, but also influenced some of the world’s most respected audio manufacturers. Many of his creations are still highly coveted by audiophiles, with their enduring appeal and unmatched performance.

Beyond consumer audio, Tim de Paravicini has made groundbreaking contributions to professional recording and mastering. His tape systems, microphones, and recording technology have been trusted by iconic artists like Pink Floyd and Lenny Kravitz, as well as prestigious labels such as Altarus and Water Lily Acoustics. Engineers like Robert Ludwig, Joe Gastwirt, and James Guthrie have relied on his designs, and The Exchange, one of the world’s top mastering facilities, uses EAR-designed equipment throughout its entire playback chain. Even Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs uses his LP cutting system and tape playback electronics.

EAR amplifiers are renowned for their ability to reproduce sound with unrivaled purity, free from the colorations and distortions that affect most amplifiers. Tim de Paravicini’s pioneering research into ultrasonic resonances and distortion has revolutionized amplifier design, allowing for a deeper understanding of how technical measurements relate to sonic quality. The result is clear: EAR amplifiers are some of the most accurate and musically engaging amplifiers ever made, providing an unmatched listening experience.
