Product Description

We’re excited to present EAR electronics, renowned for producing some of the most musical and refined tube amplifiers on the market. In the world of high-end tube audio, countless brands claim to offer top-tier performance, with many carrying much higher price tags than EAR. However, at Jaguar, we focus exclusively on amplifiers from visionary designers like EAR and Lamm, whose creations stand head and shoulders above the rest, offering unparalleled sound and craftsmanship.

With a variety of models to choose from, you can find the perfect EAR amplifier to match your system and bring your desired sound character to life.

The EAR 861 is a pure Class A push-pull power amplifier that operates in enhanced triode mode, delivering 32 watts per channel in stereo (and 64 watts in mono when bridged). It effortlessly drives 4, 8, or 16 ohm speakers with zero overall negative feedback, ensuring incredibly clean and natural sound reproduction. Featuring EL519 output tubes, a self-biasing design, and both balanced and unbalanced inputs, the 861 offers audiophiles a true high-performance solution for ultimate listening enjoyment.

About EAR

EAR (formerly “Esoteric Audio Research”) is the brainchild of Tim de Paravicini, whose name has been associated since the 1970s with electronics of the highest fidelity. De Paravicini’s innovative techniques have not only borne fruit in products for EAR, but in designs for some of the world’s most highly regarded electronics manufacturers. Some of these designs have been continually prized—and sought—by discerning listeners for decades after their introduction.

Tim de Paravicini has also made unique contributions to the world of professional recording and mastering. Users of his tape recording systems, microphones, and other recording technology include performers Pink Floyd and Lenny Kravitz, the Altarus and Water Lily record labels, and renowned recording and mastering engineers like Robert Ludwig, Joe Gastwirt, and James Guthrie. One of the world’s highest-ranked mastering facilities, The Exchange in London, uses two playback systems in which the entire chain–from tape machines and equalizers to cutter amplifiers and monitoring equipment—is EAR-designed and built. Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs uses his LP cutting system, as well as a playback tape deck with his electronics.

EAR amplifiers are unequaled in their ability to deliver a pure rendition of the signal fed into them, free from the colorations and distortions of most amplifiers. Tim de Paravicini has been instrumental in investigating the role of ultrasonic resonances in amplifier circuits and their effect on transient response. He has also undertaken significant original research on the subjective effects of distortion. This research has not only facilitated the interpretation of amplifier measurements but has shed light on the correlation between measurements and sound quality. The results are easy to appreciate—EAR amplifiers are among the most accurate amplifiers ever made.

The XB Diamond Mk II, an exceptional upgrade to the X Diamond Mk II, renowned for its remarkable performance in smaller listening spaces. Experience the perfect blend of superior sound and elegant design, a true hallmark of Estelon craftsmanship. Leveraging Estelon’s advanced and innovative engineering, these loudspeakers harmonize with the room’s acoustics to deliver an emotionally engaging listening experience. Enjoy a soundstage and musical detail that reveal recordings as they were meant to be heard.

The XB Diamond Mk II boasts a 1″ diamond tweeter, enhanced cabling, and a state-of-the-art crossover, providing extended high frequencies for a smooth, resonance-free acoustic experience. Elevate your listening experience with the XB Diamond Mk II’s exceptional transparency, precision, and unparalleled detail.

The XB Diamond Mk II features curved cabinet walls and an intricate system of interior chambers, ensuring the cabinet is completely “dead” and non-resonant. Each driver system is enclosed in an optimally shaped geometry, tailored to maximize performance. This advanced and sophisticated cabinet design allows only pure, uninfluenced sound to emanate from the high-performance driver elements.

Room dimensions and characteristics significantly impact the listening experience. At certain frequencies, pressure changes uniformly, much like pressing on a balloon. This phenomenon makes it difficult to pinpoint the exact location of the bass driver, allowing for flexible placement of the low-frequency driver separate from other drivers.

The XB Diamond’s woofer is strategically positioned near the floor to acoustically couple with the surface, maximizing efficiency and output. This placement enhances bass coherency and ensures a more even distribution of room-standing waves, making it easier to find an ideal listening position with minimal compromise in bass accuracy.

At frequencies above 100 Hz, sound reflections occur between the loudspeakers and various surfaces like walls, ceilings, floors, and furniture. In this range, where the sound wavelength is short enough for human hearing to detect its origin and create localized peaks and valleys due to standing waves, the positioning of the driver in relation to other drivers becomes crucial.

The mid-woofer and tweeter, which handle frequencies over 100 Hz, are grouped and positioned higher in the cabinets. This configuration minimizes reflections from nearby surfaces, ensuring a high degree of coherency and a stable stereo image from high bass notes to the highest harmonics.

Stereophile
“The Estelon XB Diamond Mk IIs possess a voice that’s distinctive while remaining in that desirable middle space in terms of the key sonic virtues—realism, tonal balance, timbre, etc—occupied by all speakers that reproduce music naturally, including acoustic music. Plus, subjectively, they sound low-distortion. A pristine instrument capable of (re)producing compelling music in any genre. Highly recommended. “

Theabsolutesound
“this is not just one of the great floorstanding, direct-radiating loudspeakers; it is one of the greatest floorstanding, direct-radiating loudspeakers. Its relatively modest size (four-and-a-half-feet tall, a foot-and-a-half wide) and beautiful (and beautifully functional) shape make it ideal for modestly-sized-to-larger rooms (though Estelon’s bigger—and just as beautiful and innovative—transducers may better suit truly large spaces). Obviously, I recommend it. Indeed, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Which is why Alfred Vassilkov’s Estelon X Diamond Mk II is the 2021 winner of The Absolute Sound’s foremost honor, the Overall Product of the Year Award.”
