Product Description

The Turntable

Vinyl records have defied predictions of their demise, continuing to captivate music lovers with their rich, engaging sound. Many listeners appreciate the distinctive warmth and tactile character that vinyl playback offers—qualities that have helped the format remain popular even in the age of digital audio.

The T+A G 2000 R Turntable builds on the legacy of the earlier G 1260 R model, introducing a range of refinements designed to extract the best possible performance from vinyl records. Developed as part of the R-Series, this turntable is engineered to deliver exceptional analog playback while combining elegant design with modern precision engineering.

To achieve the highest sound quality, great care has been taken to minimize mechanical and electrical interference. The drive system, motor control, and chassis construction all work together to reduce vibration, resonance, and structural noise. The result is a sound presentation that is transparent, dynamic, and highly detailed.

Several configuration options are available. The turntable can be supplied with a Clearaudio High-End Carbon tonearm and a premium moving-coil cartridge, or without tonearm and cartridge for those who prefer to select their own components. An optional PHE-G R MC phono preamplifier module can also be installed within the chassis for a clean and integrated vinyl playback solution.

Drive Motor

A key design focus is the drive system, which must operate with exceptional smoothness and stability. The turntable employs a high-quality synchronous motor connected to the platter via a precisely machined pulley and a specially ground rubber belt. This proven belt-drive approach is widely used in high-end turntable designs due to its ability to isolate motor vibrations from the platter.

To further enhance performance, the motor and surrounding structure have been carefully engineered to minimize vibration, resonance, and unwanted mechanical noise across the entire system.

DSP Control

An innovative DSP-based motor control system plays an important role in maintaining consistent rotational speed. By precisely shaping the motor’s drive signal, the system helps ensure extremely smooth platter rotation with minimal vibration.

This advanced control technology greatly reduces speed variations—commonly known as wow and flutter—resulting in stable pitch and highly accurate playback. Because the motor speed is digitally controlled, the turntable can also switch easily between 33 and 45 RPM without manually repositioning the belt.

Case Design

The chassis design is equally important for achieving optimal sonic performance. The G 2000 R is housed in a solid MDF plinth, chosen for its excellent vibration-damping properties. Internal components are mounted within this structure, while the entire turntable rests on four shock-absorbing feet to isolate it from external vibrations.

External aluminum elements use a sandwich construction to further absorb structural resonance, and the aluminum top cover is bonded to the chassis to enhance rigidity and reduce vibration.

The precision-machined platter is manufactured from pressure-cast material and mounted on an inner zinc platter for additional isolation. Combined with a soft silicone rubber mat, this design helps damp unwanted resonance while protecting delicate vinyl records. The result is a stable, acoustically inert platform that allows the cartridge to track the record groove with maximum accuracy and minimal interference.

Path Separation Technology for Superior Sound

A standout feature of the PSD 3100 HV from T+A is its advanced Path Separation Technology, developed to preserve the purity and detail of every recording. Instead of relying on a single converter for multiple digital formats—as is common in many designs—this approach uses dedicated conversion paths for different audio formats, helping maintain optimal signal integrity.

For PCM playback, the system employs a sophisticated double-differential, quadruple converter architecture capable of handling resolutions up to 32-bit / 768 kHz, delivering exceptional clarity and dynamic range.

For DSD audio, a specialized True 1-bit DSD converter is used, supporting formats up to DSD512 (24.6 MHz). By processing PCM and DSD signals separately, the PSD 3100 HV is able to reproduce each format using the most appropriate conversion method—resulting in precise, highly detailed sound that reflects the nuances of the original performance.

Advanced Converters & Precision Filtering

The PSD 3100 HV from T+A incorporates highly sophisticated digital conversion technology designed to deliver exceptional audio performance across a wide range of formats.

For PCM playback, the unit features a quadruple converter architecture built around eight 32-bit chips from Texas Instruments’s renowned Burr‑Brown audio line. This double-symmetrical design helps achieve impressive resolution, wide dynamic range, and extremely low distortion—even during complex musical passages.

A powerful 56-bit signal processor manages several oversampling algorithms, giving users the flexibility to adjust aspects such as timing accuracy and frequency response to match their listening preferences. Complementing this system are T+A’s proprietary Bezier filters, engineered to maintain precise timing while minimizing unwanted oscillations in the analog signal.

For DSD playback, the unit utilizes T+A’s True 1-Bit DSD converter, which processes DSD data in its native format rather than converting it to PCM. This approach preserves the distinctive sonic character of DSD recordings and allows compatible high-resolution files to be reproduced with remarkable accuracy and detail.
