Product Description

The T+A A 200 Power Amplifier is designed to deliver exceptional power while preserving the fine detail and musicality demanded by high-end audio systems. Capable of producing 250 watts of continuous power per channel, the amplifier combines impressive output with outstanding clarity, resolution, and dynamic precision.

Large external heat sinks not only enhance the amplifier’s distinctive appearance but also ensure efficient thermal management, allowing the unit to maintain stable performance even during demanding listening sessions. The A 200 can be integrated into an existing audio setup or paired with other Series 200 components to create a fully matched high-performance system.

To achieve an ideal balance of power, efficiency, and sound quality, T+A developed a sophisticated circuit architecture that combines its HV and high-frequency sine-wave power supply technologies with PURIFI Eigentaktâ„¢ Class D output modules. This approach transforms raw power into highly controlled, audiophile-grade performance. For system matching flexibility, the amplifier also allows adjustment of the damping factor, enabling listeners to tailor the sound character to their loudspeakers.

Output Stage

The A 200 incorporates advanced PURIFI Eigentaktâ„¢ Class D amplification technology, developed by the Danish engineering team known for pushing the limits of modern amplifier design. This platform addresses many of the limitations traditionally associated with digital amplifiers, such as distortion at high power levels and sensitivity to speaker impedance.

Power Supply Design

While many switching amplifiers offer efficiency benefits, they can also introduce electrical interference that affects sound quality. To address this, the A 200 utilizes T+A’s high-frequency sine-wave power supply design, which produces an exceptionally clean output signal at more than twice the frequency of conventional power supplies.

Specially developed reservoir capacitors recharge at extremely high speeds—up to 100,000 times per second—allowing the amplifier to respond instantly to rapid musical transients while maintaining stable voltage even during demanding passages.

Intelligent Safe Control

The amplifier also includes Intelligent Safe Control (ISC), an advanced protection system that continuously monitors temperature, load conditions, and signal behavior. Using multiple sensors and a micro-controller, the system automatically intervenes when necessary to keep operating conditions within safe limits, ensuring reliable performance without affecting sound quality.

HV Circuit Topology

T+A’s HV circuit technology, used in the voltage amplifier stage, operates at higher internal voltages to achieve extremely linear signal reproduction. This design approach contributes to a natural and highly dynamic presentation while minimizing the need for heavy negative feedback.

Frequency Response

The amplifier offers a linear frequency response up to 60 kHz, maintaining consistent performance regardless of the loudspeaker connected. Measurements show virtually identical response characteristics whether driving a 4-ohm load or operating without a speaker load, highlighting the stability of the design.

Reviews

The Absolute Sound — Editor’s Choice Award!
“Considering the build-quality, features, and, most importantly, the unbelievable performance that T+A has squeezed into these petite chassis, they’re actually quite the deal. You can’t touch their price with most large separates, and the full stack is even at the low end of the $20–$50k range”

HiFi News
While avoiding any lame jokes about ‘German engineering’, I’m bound to say there’s a wonderful sense of synergy – and not just in build and style – between these two T+A components. The A 200 is a mature-sounding power amp with excellent driving ability, and a perfect partner for the DAC 200’s refined, insightful and light-footed approach. Yes, there’s no networking, but the Series 200 has this covered elsewhere…

For computer-based audio, the USB-B input—powered by a Thesycon USB interface—supports ultra-high-resolution audio formats, including DSD up to DSD512 and PCM up to 768 kHz, offering exceptional flexibility for high-resolution digital playback.

Path Separation Technology for Superior Sound

A standout feature of the PSD 3100 HV from T+A is its advanced Path Separation Technology, developed to preserve the purity and detail of every recording. Instead of relying on a single converter for multiple digital formats—as is common in many designs—this approach uses dedicated conversion paths for different audio formats, helping maintain optimal signal integrity.

For PCM playback, the system employs a sophisticated double-differential, quadruple converter architecture capable of handling resolutions up to 32-bit / 768 kHz, delivering exceptional clarity and dynamic range.

For DSD audio, a specialized True 1-bit DSD converter is used, supporting formats up to DSD512 (24.6 MHz). By processing PCM and DSD signals separately, the PSD 3100 HV is able to reproduce each format using the most appropriate conversion method—resulting in precise, highly detailed sound that reflects the nuances of the original performance.

Advanced Converters & Precision Filtering

The PSD 3100 HV from T+A incorporates highly sophisticated digital conversion technology designed to deliver exceptional audio performance across a wide range of formats.

For PCM playback, the unit features a quadruple converter architecture built around eight 32-bit chips from Texas Instruments’s renowned Burr‑Brown audio line. This double-symmetrical design helps achieve impressive resolution, wide dynamic range, and extremely low distortion—even during complex musical passages.

A powerful 56-bit signal processor manages several oversampling algorithms, giving users the flexibility to adjust aspects such as timing accuracy and frequency response to match their listening preferences. Complementing this system are T+A’s proprietary Bezier filters, engineered to maintain precise timing while minimizing unwanted oscillations in the analog signal.

For DSD playback, the unit utilizes T+A’s True 1-Bit DSD converter, which processes DSD data in its native format rather than converting it to PCM. This approach preserves the distinctive sonic character of DSD recordings and allows compatible high-resolution files to be reproduced with remarkable accuracy and detail.
