The EAR V12 is a push-pull stereo integrated amplifier operating in enhanced triode mode, delivering 50 watts per channel into 4, 8, or 16 ohms. It uses six EL84 output tubes per channel, is self-biasing, and offers six line inputs plus a tape output. The EL84 tubes provide a sound similar to the EL34, but with a smaller, more agile character—offering nimble, lively performance that combines precision and musicality, much like the audio equivalent of a finely tuned sports car.

EAR Electronics (originally “Esoteric Audio Research”) is the creation of legendary designer Tim de Paravicini, whose work has been synonymous with high-fidelity audio since the 1970s. His innovative designs have influenced not only EAR products but also some of the world’s most respected electronics manufacturers, with many of these designs remaining highly prized by audiophiles decades later.

De Paravicini’s impact extends into professional recording and mastering. His tape recording systems, microphones, and other studio electronics have been used by artists such as Pink Floyd and Lenny Kravitz, as well as labels like Altarus and Water Lily. Renowned engineers including Bob Ludwig, Joe Gastwirt, and James Guthrie have relied on his systems, and top mastering facilities such as The Exchange in London employ EAR-designed equipment throughout their entire playback chain—from tape machines and equalizers to cutter amplifiers and monitors. Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs also utilizes his LP cutting and playback systems.
